Glorious Christ whose analogy was that of a Good Shepherd, make us more like Yourself, so that we may express towards the poor creation as much compassion and care as did humble shepherds who lived before you died.
Shame us from our lack of sensitivity and care. Teach us who boast of Calvary to know that we are not the whole of the world for which you suffered. Take the blindness from our eyes, the prejudice from our minds and the haughtiness from our hearts.
Save us from the arrogance which makes your love far too small, confining it to our own species, just as your children once confined it to their own race.
Make us aware of the fact that what mankind sows it will inevitably reap, for we are all interdependent upon each other and your moral laws can never be traversed with impunity.
Lord grant that even the air which surrounds us may give out from us vibrations of love and trust, so that all animals will recognise in us the manifestation of your children.
Lord, accept this prayer, and make us all kind under shepherds. We ask this for Your Name’s sake.
AMEN
