Writer's picture: Chapman ChenChapman Chen

There are animal-friendly messages in the Old Testament that serve as antidotes to those anti-vegan verses inserted by the 'lying pens of the scribes' (Jer. 8:8).

1. If you are not Vegan, you are Breaking ALL Ten Commandments

In regarding humanity as superior to all other creatures of God, non-vegans break the 1st Commandment; in saying thanksgiving prayers to God for providing innocent creatures' flesh, one breaks the 2nd Commandment; in sacrificing animals to one's belly-idol, one breaks the 3rd Commandment; in eating God's creatures, thus failing to recognize that Sabbath is a reminder of creation, one breaks the 4th Commandment; in eating animal flesh and damaging themselves physically, mentally and spiritually, one disgraces their parents and breaks the 5th Commandment; in killing animals for food, vivisection, sports, etc. one breaks the 6th commandment; in forcefully and artificially inseminating female animals in order to get their milk, one breaks the 7th Commandment; in robbing animals of their food like honey, their skin, their hair, their feathers, their eggs, etc., one breaks the 8th Commandment; in speaking unjustly about their animal neighbours, one breaks the 9th Commandment; in occupying and/or destroying animals' habitats, one breaks the 10th Commandment.

2. The Forbidden Fruit in Eden is Flesh

3. The Wages of Eating Animal Flesh is Death!

While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck down the people with a very great plague. (Numbers 11:33 ESV)

4. Balaam’s Donkey Speaks on Behalf of Oppressed Animals
