From a vegan viewpoint, the most relevant section of Craig Wescoe’s 2025 book The Book of Enoch: Study Edition (published by Swords2Plowshares) is found on pages 246–261. In this portion, the author intricately juxtaposes and interweaves verses from The Book of Enoch, Genesis, Revelation, Job, and Matthew to construct a more or less coherent narrative—tracing the fall of certain angels, the rise of carnivorous giants, the punitive Deluge, the persistence of violence through animal sacrifice and flesh-eating, and ultimately the Final Judgement. From the perspective of Vegan Theology, this storyline makes perfect sense:-

Fallen angels lusted after the beautiful daughters of humans and impregnated them, who bore great giants (1 Enoch 6:1-3 RHC; Genesis 6:1-2;4). These carnivorous giants consumed innocent creatures of God (1 Enoch 7:1-4 RHC; 1 Enoch 7:5-6 RL translation), and the whole earth was corrupted (Genesis 6:11-12, ESV) through the works taught by Azazel, the leader of the fallen angels (1 Enoch 10:8 RHC). In order to cleanse the earth, God destroyed it with the Deluge (Genesis 6:11-12; 1 Enoch 10:8 RHC), albeit not before He had told Noah to prepare the ark for surviving the flood (Genesis 6:13). Afterwards, God established His covenant with Noah and other animals anew (Genesis 6:17-22), reiterating the ban on flesh-eating  ̶  “But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood” (Genesis 9:4 NKJV).

Unfortunately, the human survivors still failed to repent (Revelation 9:20-21 NIV). The spirits of the giants led humanity astray into sacrificing animals, consuming flesh, and warring (1 Enoch 15:8-11, 19:1 RHC); violence and destruction continued on earth (1 Enoch 15:11-12 RHC). Jesus, therefore, asks us to worship and serve God instead of Satan (Matthew 4:10, cf. Deut. 6:13).

On the Final Judgement Day, indeed, the hosts of Azazel will be cast into the abyss of complete condemnation (1 Enoch 54:1-4 RHC); the Devil will be cast into the hell of eternal fire (Revelation 20:10-15 BSB; Matthew 25:41 NIV). “The earth will be cleansed from all defilement, from all sin… and from all torment (1 Enoch 10:22 RHC). “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4 NKJV; Isaiah 25:8).

My question is: Why should we wait until the Second Coming before every tear is wiped from the animals’ eyes? Why don’t we break free from the spirits of the carnivorous, atrocious giants, and follow Jesus the Vegan Christ right NOW? It would be easy for most of us to simply stop abusing animals for food, for clothing, for labour, for entertainment, and restore on earth the Garden of Eden straightaway.

Note: The Book of Enoch is an ancient Jewish religious work, traditionally attributed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. Though not part of the canonical Bible in most Jewish and Christian traditions, it was highly influential in early Judaism and early Christianity. Craig Wescoe began Swords to Plowshares Ministry in 2013 and is currently the editor and weekly Friday Night Live speaker for Creation Care Church. #VeganTheology #VeganChrist #VeganGod #VeganChurch
