Cruel diversions, nameless torment,
Useless suffering, fear-filled hell!
Never can this be what God intended:
To feast at the expense of your fellow creatures
And laugh over their harrowing screaming.
The whole world is as if forsaken by God!
How can a human being, how can a heart grasp this?
Man, do reflect; Man, cease from being
The Terror and the Harm!
Karl Adolf Laubscher (1894–1991) was a Swiss pioneer of ethical living, best remembered for his deep compassion toward animals and his unwavering commitment to veganism. A pharmacist by profession, Laubscher became an early advocate for animal rights and plant-based living long before these concerns gained mainstream attention. He believed that nonviolence should extend beyond human beings to include all sentient creatures, and he saw veganism as a moral imperative rooted in respect for life.
Laubscher promoted a holistic lifestyle based on natural health, ecological awareness, and ethical consistency. In his writings and public engagements, he consistently emphasised the spiritual and ethical dimensions of veganism, arguing that true peace could not be achieved without compassion for animals. His work influenced many within the European health reform and ethical vegetarian movements of the 20th century.
To this day, Laubscher is honoured among the forerunners of vegan philosophy, remembered as a man whose life embodied kindness, simplicity, and reverence for all living beings. #VeganChrist #VeganGod #VeganTheology #Veganchurch
