Apart from hands-on healing, love therapy, and veganism, Jesus must also have healed Mary Magdalene by passing on vegan secret spiritual knowledge (gnosis) to her—such as the illusory and impermanent nature of the material world, the importance of finding our inner Christ and divine spark within, how to transcend the seven powers of wrath, which involve fleshy desire, brutality, unawareness and rage, etc., and could refer to the seven demons who had possessed Mary.
1. The Material World is Illusionary & Transient
Several Gnostic gospels, including Gospel of Mary (2nd century AD), Gospel of Philip (3rd century AD), and Pistis Sophia (3rd-4th century AD) portray Mary Magdalene as Jesus' closest disciple, giving her special knowledge (gnosis). For example, before His departure, Jesus taught all His disciples, male and female alike, that the material world is illusionary and impermanent:- “All natures, all formations, all creatures exist in and with one another, and they will dissolve again into their own roots. For the nature of matter is dissolved into what belongs to its nature” (Gospel of Mary, page 7:1-5). He also urged them to follow their inner Christ or “the son of humanity” within them (Gospel of Mary, page 8).
2. Seek Out the Divine Spark Within
After Jesus’ departure, Mary shared additional secret knowledge the master gave her privately, which the other disciples had not heard. These teachings emphasize the inward journey of the soul, the importance of inner peace, and the liberation from material attachments and fear. Rather than focusing on external laws or rituals, Jesus revealed to Mary that true salvation comes through inner knowledge (gnosis) and aligning oneself with the divine spark within. For example, “where the mind is, there is the treasure…the one who sees the vision see it not…in the soul or in the spirit, but the mind…between the two” (Gospel of Mary, page 10); “Cease not to seek day and night, and remit not yourselves until you find the mysteries of the Light-kingdom...” (Pistis Sophia, Book 1).
3. Transcendence Over the Seven Powers of Wrath
Jesus explained to Mary that the soul must ascend through several levels, overcoming the seven powers of wrath, to return to its spiritual home. The seven powers here may correspond to the seven demons by which Mary Magdalene had been possessed (Gospel of Mary, 15). Specifically, the fourth one of these powers take seven forms, including Darkness, Desire, Ignorance, Zeal for Death, The Kingdom of the Flesh, The Foolish Wisdom of Flesh, and The Wisdom of Anger. Zeal for Death may refer to violence against animals and humans; The Kingdom of the Flesh and The Foolish Wisdom of Flesh may refer to obsession with lasciviousness and the desire for animal flesh as food. Again, these seven forms may also correspond to the seven demons cast out from Mary by Jesus.
Mary, having received these profound teachings, becomes a vessel of secret wisdom.
4. Freedom from Obsession with Flesh
While the Gospel of Mary, Gospel of Philip, and Pistis Sophia do not explicitly mention veganism, the underlying principles of the secret knowledge (gnosis) they present can be seen as compatible with a vegan ethic. In Gnostic cosmology, the material world is often viewed as a realm of illusion, suffering, and entrapment. Flesh, bodily passions, and earthly desires are to be transcended. This worldview aligns closely with a vegan ethic, which seeks to free oneself from participating in the violence, craving, and suffering associated with the consumption of animals. Indeed, Mary’s teachings highlight inner peace and freedom from fear and attachment. Similarly, veganism—especially in spiritual traditions such as those of the Essenes or early Christian ascetics—was often practised as a path toward purification and peace, avoiding the fear, pain, and karma bound up in consuming the flesh of another being.
5. Conclusion
We would do well to learn from the vegan secret message imparted by Jesus to Mary Magdalene for her healing—namely, that the key to true salvation lies in seeing through the illusory nature of this physical world, recognising our inner Vegan Christ and liberating ourselves from the demonic powers of fleshy desire, violence, ignorance, and anger. #VeganChris #VeganGod #VeganTheology
