Life is a dream.
“Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.” (Psalm 90:5–6 KJV)
“As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.” (Psalm 73:20 KJV)
All conditioned phenomena
Are like a dream, an illusion, a bubble, a shadow
Like dew or a flash of lightning
Should be observed as thus. (Diamond Sutra)
“The world is like a dream. It appears in consciousness and disappears again.” (Yoga Vasistha)
The ultimate mission of every sentient being is to wake up from their dreamy to the Kingdom of God within (Luke 17:21) and become one with the Father (John 10:30; cf. John 17:21) or with the Supreme Consciousness.
Meanwhile, serious spiritual practitioners also try their best—even within the dream—to help those who are vulnerable and suffering, humans and animals alike: physically, by tending their wounds, liberating them from unjust imprisonment, and providing them with necessary material resources; psychologically, by listening to them and consoling them; spiritually, by helping them realise who they truly are—beloved children of God (1 John 3:1).
For God is love (1 John 4:8), and Christ is compassion: “I desire compassion, not sacrifice” (Matt 9:13; 12:7; cf. Hosea 6:6). Jesus proclaims: “Heal the brokenhearted… preach deliverance to the captives… set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4:18–19); and reminds us: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matt 25:40).
